Also Search as Free Text
When you select this box, then you run a free text search for all terms entered in the search box. A free text search in Embase means your term is searched in all fields such as title and abstract but also in index fields and narrower or child terms.
Please note:
- If you search directly for an Emtree preferred term and select the free text search option, then your term will be searched for and found in index fields and narrower or child terms for your term. This is an exploded search is performed. If you are searching using a synonym, the same search is carried out but your term will NOT be found in index fields and narrower or child terms. Therefore, your results will not be exploded.
- You may consider using the Field option instead of selecting the free text option and limit to title and abstract for example.
- Words and phrases that cannot be mapped to an Emtree preferred term are automatically searched as free text.
